Southampton Town Eases Short-Term Rental Restrictions for US Open Golf
In anticipation of the significant influx of visitors for the US Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in June 2026, Southampton Town will temporarily relax its short-term rental regulations. From June 8 to June 24, 2026, homeowners with valid rental permits will be permitted to offer rentals for as short as three days, a departure from the usual two-week minimum. The tournament is scheduled from June 15 to 21, with practice rounds on June 16 and 17, and competitive play occurring from June 18 to 21.
The Town Board has recognized that the expected attendance of over 20,000 spectators and support staff will create a high demand for rental accommodations during this period. To address this need, the board has approved a resolution allowing flexibility in rental housing. However, only properties with valid rental permits and registration numbers will be eligible for these short-term rentals. Obtaining a rental permit involves submitting various documentation and paying a fee of $400, or $175 for eligible seniors, veterans, and volunteers.
